Did you have a wonderful Thanksgiving? I did! I had my whole family come from three states to spend Thanksgiving with us. We had a wonderful time together telling stories, eating, shopping, watching movies and football, and playing games. We laughed a lot and enjoyed our time together. It was a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of the work week and school for us all. Then Monday came and we all had to get up and get on with our daily routines of jobs, school, housework and exercise. My children asked if they could “call in sleepy” for the day. Unfortunately, BIG YELLOW would be rolling down the street for them so they had to get up and face the day.
I think Thanksgiving break is similar to a spiritual retreat. Retreats are great fun and full of laughter and very little sleep. While the food may be questionable, the fellowship with other believers and with Jesus is amazing. However, when Monday comes, we face reality. We can’t live in retreat mode our whole life anymore than we can live life on Thanksgiving break. But we can learn from our mountaintop experiences with the Lord and apply what we learn each day so our day to day routines are exciting and full of joy just like our retreat.
When we are on a spiritual retreat, it’s all about Jesus. How different would your life be if each day you committed to make it all about Him? What would come out of your mouth to others? What would you spend your time doing? What would you view on the internet? TV? or read? Would it change things? Are you willing? “But if serving the Lord seems undesireable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve……….But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15
