Wednesday, it was cold and rainy. The temperatures seemed to drop throughout the day and the wind picked up. Weather wise, it was a dreary day. Then I got a phone call from a friend who told me of another neighbor who lost a job due to the economic situation in our country. Economically speaking, it was a dreary day.
Late in the afternoon I walked outside to get the mail. The clouds were starting to break up and the sun was trying to peak through the branches of the only tree that stands in our front yard. I looked up and noticed the tree was bare, but in it rested three bird’s nests. They were left over from spring time. As I looked at these nests, I realized they were a sign of new life. They were a reminder of life to come. They were a promise from God that dreary winter days may be here, but spring will come.
In these difficult times in our country, it would be easy to get discouraged. We’ve all been impacted by our economic changes, some more than others. Yet, God is still on the throne and He has promised through His Word that He will not leave us nor forsake us. He is going before us and preparing a way for us [Deuteronomy 31:8].
So, when the day looks dreary, just look up. A new day is coming [Psalm 30:5].
Oh my, how we desperately need to look up to Him. My pastor preached a sermon on Sunday about the state of our church and in it he encouraged us to focus not on the economy but on God.
Great post!
