We have a saying in our house we use quite often in the early morning hours of the week…”Morning sure does come early around here.” Waking up early to face the day isn’t always the easiest thing to do, especially when you wake up to the sound of the alarm clock.
I absolutely hate the sound of an alarm clock going off. I can hear it in a commercial on television or radio and it just makes my skin crawl. It has to be the most obnoxious sound in the world. I think people would wake up in much better moods if there was a different sound waking them up.
The alarm clock always gets me up on the first try, because I can not stand to hear the sound once a day, let alone again and again because I hit the snooze button. However, many people, my husband included, will hit the snooze button for just a few minutes more sleep.
How many of us try to hit the snooze button when the Lord calls us to get up and get going on something? We tell Him we aren’t ready or don’t have what it takes. We ask Him to send another instead of us. We beg Him for more time.
Luke 12:35 tells us to “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning,” Mark 13:33 says, “Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.” And 1 Thessalonians 5:6 says, “So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.”
There are no snooze buttons in Kingdom living. We are to always be ready and alert. We do not know when the Lord will call us to do something He ordained for only us to do. We must always be ready, through prayer and the study of God’s Word, so when the call comes, we are alert and ready to act. If we are not, we will miss out on opportunities to serve God and the blessings that come from an obedient heart. So wake up and get on with your day. Don’t hit that snooze button. You need all the time you can get in the Word and with the Father to prepare you for the work ahead.
