Mother’s Day is a special time of year whether you are a mom yourself or you are celebrating your own mom. However, Mother’s Day isn’t just about those people who give birth to children. There are many women in my life who have influenced me, invested in my life, and who have simply loved me with an unwavering love. These are my spiritual mothers, my mentors, the women who walk out Titus 2:3-5 in my life. You see, you don’t have to give birth or even adopt to be a mother to someone. Being a mother is about pouring out wisdom and love. It is about joy and laughter and even correction or a firm word when necessary.
Philippians 2:4 says, “Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” We serve a relational God who created us to have relationship with Him but also to have relationship with one another. We are called to invest in others and look out for them. We all have a purpose and we all have influence.
Whether you are a mother because you gave birth to a child, adopted a child or simply loved a child, your influence does make a difference. So, to all of you, I say a belated Happy Mother’s Day. Thank you for giving of yourself.
