I am very blessed to have two precious children. We never found out what either of our children would be until they took their first breath. It made that last bit of labor bearable for me because I so desperately wanted to find out. With each pregnancy I prayed for a healthy, happy baby. The first time around I would add, “But if it doesn’t matter to you, Lord, I’d like a baby boy.” The second time around I changed it to “But if it doesn’t matter to you, Lord, I’d like a baby girl.” I was blessed to get exactly what I asked for, however, you never know with pregnancies. You have a 50/50 chance.
Adoption is somewhat different. You can choose if you want to adopt a boy or a girl. In some cases, you can even be more specific about their features. Either way, when you are adopted you are chosen.
God adopted us into His family. He saw us beforehand and He chose us anyway. Ephesians 1:5 says “He predestined us to adoption as sons (and daughters) through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will.” [NAS- italics mine] How cool is that?
Whenever you feel like the kid standing on the playground waiting to get picked for a team, remember, God already picked you. What will you do today to help others feel the love and acceptance of God?
