Hebrews 11:6 says “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Dictionary.com says faith is something that is believed with strong conviction; firm belief in something for which there is no proof; complete trust. Without it, we cannot please God nor can we move forward towards the blessings God has for us.
Think of the Israelites who left Egypt. The Lord had orchestrated their release and then He led them out towards the Promised Land. They didn’t have a road map. They simply walked where the Lord led them. He brought them right up to the Red Sea. Now do you think for a minute God was sitting on His throne saying “Oops! I forgot I put that there. Now what am I going to do?” No! He knew exactly where He was taking them, even though it looked impossible. Nothing is impossible with God [Luke 1:37]. He took them to the Red Sea to test their faith.
God also called Moses to step up and raise his staff. WHEN Moses was obedient to God, even though it sounded crazy and made little sense to those around, God moved in power and the sea was parted. It took amazing faith on Moses’ part. He had to risk looking like a fool in front of everyone; however, when He did what He was called to do the power of God was released.
Hebrews 11:29 says, “By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.” Can you imagine watching the Red Sea part? It had to be the most amazing thing they had ever witnessed. God made a way where there seemed to be no way. It took incredible faith on their part to take a step and walk through with the walls of water on either side of them. After all, it’s not every day you see a body of water split so you can cross on dry ground.
In the movie The Prince of Egypt it shows a whale swimming in the parted waters. I don’t know if they actually saw fish swimming in the wall of water, but they had to know what goes up must come down. They had to have faith God would keep those waters up until they crossed to the other side. It wasn’t a one time act of faith. With each step they took, they had to have complete trust. God had the Promised Land waiting for them on the other side, but they had to take action to get there.
What is God asking you to do today? Does it look impossible? Are people close at hand who have opinions they’d likely share? God is standing by ready to release His power in your life to do amazing things; however, it has to be initiated by you taking a step of faith. What are you waiting for?
