When you hear the phrase “pushy person” does someone specific come to mind? You know the kind of person I’m talking about. They want their way and they will do whatever is necessary to get it. They may push you into doing something they want you to do or they pull you with them somewhere, even if you have no desire to go. They just don’t seem to take “no” for an answer. They are like a human bulldozer.
Fortunately for us, God isn’t pushy. In fact, He is a perfect gentleman. He desires to have a relationship with us, but He doesn’t force it. The Lord doesn’t push or pull, but He does beckon us and then waits for us to decide for ourselves. The word push means “to press against with force in order to drive or impel.” The word pull means “to exert force upon so as to cause or ten to cause motion toward the force.” The word beckon means “to summon or signal; to appear inviting.” There is no force involved in beckoning. Jesus beckons us to join Him. If He made us come to Him, then the relationship would be meaningless. He wants us to want Him…to choose Him above all else.
Jesus stands before us and summons us, but then He waits for our response. Revelation 3:20 says “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me.” Jesus desires relationship but He isn’t a bulldozer. He gives us a choice. He initiates and then He waits for our response.
What will you do? Today, He stands before you and beckons you to come and spend time with Him. Will you join Him or will you pass Him by?
