DSL is a wonderful thing…when it works. This morning it didn’t, so I had to go to my favorite coffee shop in town, The Daily Grind, to write. It wasn’t all bad. The minute I walked in the door, I was greeted by the people who work there (who have become like family) and they immediately hand me a Non-fat Chai Latte, because they know if I’m drinking anything hot, that is what I’m drinking.
DSL is a beautiful thing when it works but it isn’t always dependable. Whenever a storm comes and the power gets knocked off a time or two, DSL is gone for a time. When that happened last night, I started thinking… there really isn’t much you can count on to be there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, except God. You can’t count on money, your job, other people or even your home being there (as many people in Cobb County learned last week in the floods). God, however, is always there. He is only a prayer away from you, even if that prayer is simply one word…”Help!”
God is faithful to us. He doesn’t disappear when the storms come in nor does He stop working. Sometimes, it may seem like He has abandoned us, but He never does. God is with us in all that we do [Genesis 21:22] and in all we encounter [Psalm 23:4]. In fact, He promises us over and over through His Word He will never leave us nor forsake us [Deuteronomy 31:6, 8, Joshua 1:5, 1 Kings 8:57, Matthew 28:20, 1 Corinthians 5:4]. He also tells us in John 5:17 He is always working- “Jesus said to them, ‘My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I, too, am working.’”
If you are feeling abandoned by God in your current situation, cry out to Him and ask Him to reveal Himself to you in some way. You will be amazed at the many ways God is present and working in your life, not matter how good or bad the circumstances seem to be. He loves you. You are the apple of His eye [Zechariah 2:8]. You can ALWAYS count on Him to be present and working.
