Do you know anyone serving in the military? I have a friend, Joshua, who is 20 years old and serving in Iraq. Joshua was at church yesterday because he was given two weeks leave time. It was wonderful to see him, but as I looked at this young man, reality hit me. He is putting his life on the line for my freedom every day. What am I doing for him?

John 15:13 says “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” Joshua embodies this verse each day. He is willing to pay the greatest sacrifice for our freedom along with many men and women in our armed forces. What are we willing to sacrifice for them?

Maybe you don’t know anyone who is serving in the military. Take a moment and look at those around you. Everyone serving our country in the military is someone’s son or daughter, someone’s husband or wife, someone’s father or mother. You know people like that in your neighborhood, workplace, church, or school.

They wake up each morning and strap on weapons and helmets and gear to battle on our behalf; we can support them by strapping on our armor and going to our knees to battle for them [Ephesians 6:10-18]. What these brave men and women do physically each morning to protect us, we can do spiritually each morning to protect them.

Take a moment today and thank the Lord for those who allow you to go through your day enjoying the freedoms you have and ask Him to protect them and bring them safely home.
