Have you managed to stay healthy with all of the sickness going around? I have been very fortunate to avoid it for most of the winter until five days ago. It all started slow. On Friday, I noticed I was sneezing a lot and then I could tell my head was feeling a bit stuffy. Saturday was filled with things to do, so I hit the ground running and tried not to think about it. By Sunday, I had a horrible cough, sinus congestions, a bad tension headache…just a full blown bad cold. I felt like doing nothing but sleeping all day. Had I paid attention to the beginning signs and gotten plenty of rest and taken care of myself, it might not have been as bad as it is today. I’m heading to the doctor today, because I need help getting well.

Spiritually we get sick also. We might notice a few early symptoms such as missing a regular quiet time or having our mind wander every time we pray instead of just every now and then. If we don’t pull back and attend to the symptoms at the onset, we can find ourselves spiritually sick. We end up feeling totally separated from God and we don’t know why. We don’t feel like praying or opening our Bible or if we do, we’re simply going through the motions.

Psalm 62:5 says “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him.” We need to rest spiritually sometimes just like we need to rest physically. The way we rest spiritually is to pull away to a quiet place and just “be” with the Lord [Psalm 46:10]. When we rest in His presence, He restores us [1 Peter 5:10]. If you’re feeling the symptoms of a spiritual cold coming on, don’t wait until it is full blown. Get the help you need to heal quickly. Take time to rest, go to the Great Physician [Matthew 4:23], and allow Him to minister healing to your spirit.
