Have you ever watched anyone bench press weights? They lie back on a bench with a bar over their chest holding the weights on each end. Typically, the amount of weight they lift in this position is heavier than they would lift standing. If they are wise, they have one or two people standing by to spot them, so if the weight they are lifting is too heavy they can receive assistance and avoid crushing their chest.
No one is ever meant to carry a heavy burden upon them. God designed the body of Christ to function as a support network for one another [1 Corinthians 12:12]. We help one another carry our burdens of prayer and burdens in life. He also is there to help us with our life’s trials and troubles [Psalm 55:22]. In fact, He tells us in Matthew 18:20 when two or more gather in His name, He’s there. He doesn’t just come to watch. He comes to participate.
If we try and walk this journey of life alone, we will get hurt. Problems will come, but He has already overcome them [John 16:33]. Why would you ever want to face them alone; especially when He has made a way for you to walk through them without getting crushed [Psalm 23:4]?
Ecclesiastes 4:9 reminds us that two are better than one. Ask the Lord to show you who He has placed in your life to spot you and look for opportunities to be a spotter for others.
