Have you ever met someone famous? A friend of mine called me hysterical this weekend. She had just met Beth Moore and she was beside herself with excitement. Throughout the weekend, the Lord kept bringing that to mind. Finally, I sat down to ask Him why. He brought to mind the times I’ve stood in line to get concert tickets and how excited I was to get them and after attending the concert, I would proclaim it was worth the wait. He reminded me of the hour we stood in line to meet Cinderella at Disney when my daughter was little and the long lines we would wait in to ride a ride in the theme parks that lasted less than 3 minutes.
When was the last time you were beside yourself with excitement to meet with the Lord? When have you waited patiently for Him and then declared it worth the wait [Psalm 27:14]?
As a culture our value system is completely out of whack. We place worth on things and people that are here today and gone tomorrow and very little worth on our relationship with Jesus. We elevate people on pedestals and esteem them greatly; however, we throw the name of Jesus Christ around as if it weren’t the name above all names.
God is very clear about the position of Jesus in Philippians 2:9-11 “Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” He also was very clear about the position of other people and things in regard to Him in Exodus 20:3 when He declared “You shall have no other gods before me.”
How does your value system line up compared to that of our culture? Where does Jesus fit in? Most of us would say we only have one god and it is the one true God, Jesus Christ; however, will our actions and words support that statement? Do our actions and deeds demonstrate Jesus is above all things to us?
Take a moment today to ask the Lord to reveal if your value system needs realignment. Ask Him to show you if anything has been placed equal to or above Him in your life and if so, ask Him to help you put things back in their proper order. May we all come together as one voice, joining the angels in heaven, as they say “”Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” and may our actions declare it as well.
