Do you have someone you talk through your day with each day? Maybe a friend or family member you call just to say hello and see how their day is going? It is wonderful to have those people in your life. I have a few girlfriends like that and I talk with my mom most days. We usually don’t have anything in particular we discuss. We just share what is going on in our day or if anything exciting has occurred since we last talked. I know I can always talk with them about anything because we’ve developed a habit of doing so.
The Lord created us for relationship. He wants us to have friends we talk with and share our life with; yet first and foremost, He desires an intimate relationship with you like He had with Moses. Exodus 33:11a says “The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.”
The Lord doesn’t want a 911 relationship with you, where you only come to Him in a crisis mode. A 911 phone call is frantic and hurried. When making that call, you don’t take time to get to know the other person’s heart or even their name. You simply spew out the details necessary and scream for help. It is about as personal as an automated secretary. You’re grateful for the help they send, but you couldn’t recall an intimate fact about the one who helped you if your life depended on it.
The Lord wants more in His relationship with you. He wants to hear about your hopes and dreams. Psalm 37:4 says “Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart.” The Lord promises you the desires of your heart after you delight yourself in Him; because as you delight yourself in Him, you become one with Him desiring the same things He desires. You build an intimate relationship.
There are many situations we can rush through, but we will be at a great loss if our quiet time is one of them. Take time with the Lord and talk with Him about everything. He wants to know your thoughts on the little things as much as He does the BIG things. Have you taken time to ask His thoughts on anything lately? Why not start today by sharing what you have planned for your day and ask Him if He would change anything about your schedule. You’ll be blessed by doing so.
