Have you ever asked your children to share some of their favorite verses of the Bible with you? The other day my son, Sam, came into my office and sat down while I was working. It was obvious he wanted to talk. He asked what I was doing. I shared the scripture I was reading at the time. He began to tell me some of the scriptures he’s recently grown to love.
Hosea 2:13-14 was the first he shared. I will punish her for the days she burned incense to the Baals; she decked herself with rings and jewelry, and went after her lovers, but Me she forgot,” declares the LORD. “Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her. He was filled with excitement as he talked about it. “Mom, it doesn’t matter how much we mess up, the Lord desires a relationship with us and He will draw us away with Him and speak to us.
He then asked me to turn to Joel 2:12-13. ‘Even now,’ declares the LORD, ‘return to Me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.’ Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity. Sam smiled, “God is so for you, no matter where you are or what you’ve done.”
A knot rose in my throat and I couldn’t speak for a moment. My sweet son has learned how the Lord loves Him and is for Him. Friend, do you understand how precious you are to the Lord? Do you know He is for you, no matter what you’ve done? You cannot do anything today to make Him love you more than He does right now and you cannot do anything to make Him love you less than He does right now. He is overwhelmed by you and drawn to you [Psalm 45:11].
Pursue the one who is desperately pursuing you. He will never leave you nor forsake you [Deuteronomy 31:8]. He will wash you clean with His blood as He extends His grace to you because He loves you so. How will you respond to Him today?
