Have you ever forgotten to take the trash out on trash day? It can be a real mess and if you forget to take the outside trashcans to the roadside for pickup in time, then it becomes a stinky mess you have to live with for a full week.
Trash is one of those things that builds up over time and if you deal with it and empty the cans before they become overflowing, then they don’t pose a real problem. If ignored or left alone for a long period of time, it makes an ugly mess of things.
The same is true with sin in our lives. We need to deal with it immediately instead of allowing it to build up [Psalm 32:5]. We’ve got to get rid of the sin so there is no barrier between us and God. We are promised in Romans 10:9 ”That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” When we take care of our sin on a daily basis, there is no build up and no place for the enemy to slip in and wreak havoc [Ephesians 4:27]. He is looking for an opportunity to create a mountain out of a mole hill and destroy your life [1 Peter 5:8]. You have the ability to stop him in his tracks by taking the trash out of your life daily. You do this by meeting with the Lord each day, hiding His Word in your heart, and confessing your sins immediately [Psalm 118:11].
It’s time to take the trash out. Grab your Bible, find a quiet place, and start cleaning.
