Did you ever see the movie “You’ve Got Mail” with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks? I loved that movie. I loved hearing the computer sign on and say “You’ve got mail” and watch their faces light up. We all love to get mail from people, whether it is email or snail mail. It allows us to stay connected to others. If you’re like me, you get a lot of junk mail too. It seems to come more regularly than the mail I look forward to receiving and it comes in larger quantities.
When I get the mail from the mailbox outside, I flip through it all as I walk up the driveway and pull out all the junk mail and throw it in the trashcan in the garage on my way inside. I don’t even bring the junk in the house.
With my computer I go straight to the emails and read through them and then I will click on my spam/trash folder and delete those. I never like to allow it to build up because it could have something attached to it that could damage my computer.
Sin is like junk mail. We don’t usually ask for it, but it arrives daily at our doorstep. Sometime there may only be one or two things and other times there is a lot of it. We need to deal with it immediately and not allow it to fester in our lives and grow wreaking havoc [1 Corinthians 5:8; Ephesians 4:26-27]. The Lord is quick to forgive a repentant heart and remove our sin from us as far as the east is from the west [Psalm 103:12].
The Lord knows what is going on in your life [John 16:30]. He’s reading your mail. Ask Him to help you sort it and get rid of the junk!
