Have you ever been in a rush to get somewhere and end up getting lost? I was having dinner at a friend’s house on Saturday and stayed later than I planned. My husband was traveling home from North Carolina and my children were on their way home from playing miniature golf and having dinner out, and I wanted to be there when they arrived. I jumped in the car and took off without reviewing my directions. I wound up in the middle of a cul-de-sac, lost. At that point, I took the time to review my directions and realized I had made a wrong turn at Peace Street. I had to laugh out loud. I got lost when I left Peace. As my laughter subsided, the Lord had my attention. “Okay, God, I know you’re trying to teach me something here.”
How many times do we find ourselves losing our way when we lose our peace? We allow anxiety to come into our lives and we begin to focus on our circumstances instead of our Lord. When we focus on our circumstances, we tend to react without thinking instead of responding with confidence [Mark 4:35-41]. We get in a rush and do not take the time to review our directions from the Lord [Mark 1:35].
Before ascending into heaven, Jesus told the disciples in John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” True, unwavering peace comes from Him and Him alone.
Are you feeling the pressures of the world today? Are you struggling with a decision or a task at hand and you aren’t sure what to do? Take pause and consult the Word of God for direction. Find peace in Him. Realize peace is a gift from the Lord for you. You simply have to receive it.
