What are you believing God for today? Anything? Think carefully about the question. I didn’t ask you what you want God to do for you today. I asked what you are believing God for today. There is a huge difference between belief and desire.
We tend to trust God with the things we already know will happen… like the sun coming up each day or for us to make it through our work day. Do you ever go to Him with something big? After doing Henry Blackaby’s Bible study, Experiencing God, we refer to the big things as God sized assignments. They are things we know will not ever happen without God’s intervention.
Thankfully, we have a Daddy who likes to get involved in His kids’ lives. He likes to be the hero and show up in big ways. I have seen God to some amazing things and I am ashamed that I am so wowed when it happens. It should be my expectation every time. As His child, I should know what He is capable of and expect it as the norm, not the exception.
In Matthew 17:16-20, Jesus tells the disciples if they have the faith of a mustard seed they can tell mountains to move and they will. Have you ever seen a mustard seed? It’s a tiny little thing. In Mark 4:31 Jesus tells us the mustard seed is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. However, the mustard seed grows a mighty tree. I’ve never planted a mustard seed, but I’ve stood under a mighty oak tree before and seen the size of the acorns they come from. Mustard seeds are hundreds of times smaller than acorns and that is all the faith Jesus says we need to move mountains.
So I ask you again, What are you believing God for today? When you are ready to trust in Him to move, you’ll see it. It may not come in the way you expect or even hope, but He will respond. If you can’t fully believe, then be like the man in Mark 9:24 who said “I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief!”
When our Ghana mission team gathered the first time, I told each of them we would have to raise $3000 of personal support and then we would have to raise $5000 as a team to provide meals for 1000 ladies who attend our retreats. We have 7 team members. So we have to raise $26,000. That seems impossible with only 7 women doing the fundraising. I mean, have you seen how much money you make at a car wash? We knew we couldn’t do it, but God could. We leave in 7 weeks and we are less than $2000 from being fully funded. The money has come to us in all sorts of ways and it has blessed us and those who have heard the stories.
God is still in the miracle business. He tells us in Mark 11:24 to ask in prayer and then believe. He doesn’t provide everything we want, but He does provide what we need. Take some time today and present your need to God and then believe He will move. If you have trouble believing, ask Him to help you with that also.
