Do you have any age spots or breakouts on your face? This morning as I was getting ready for my day, I noticed a few places on my face I needed to put concealer before heading out the door. I wonder how many of us cover one imperfection or another each day. Women use makeup to cover up blemishes or age spots. Men grow facial hair sometimes to cover up bad acne problems and both use hair color to cover their graying hair. The problem with all of those things is when the covering is gone, the problems still exist and must be faced.
We try and do the same thing with our sin. We try and cover it up so we can face our day without anyone knowing what we’ve done. We may pull it off for a while, but eventually, it will come out, even if it is only before Jesus. Unlike our physical imperfections, there is a way to permanently take care of our sin and have it gone forever.
1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Jesus can remove our sin as far from us as the east is from the west [Psalm 103:12]. The accuser will come before God to tell all of our sins, but we won’t have to shrink back or attempt to cover ourselves or our sin [Revelation 12:10]. We are already covered by the blood of Jesus, thus deemed righteous [1 John 1:7].
Aren’t you tired of trying to solve a permanent problem with temporary solutions? Take a moment today to sit down with Jesus and settle things permanently. He is before you with His arms open wide. He is for you, not against you. He came to earth for this very reason. He came for you.
