How are you today? “Fine, thank you,” seems to be the common and expected response to that question. Have you ever noticed that people ask the question when they pass you, but usually keep walking as if they really don’t care to hear your answer? It’s simply a formality, because if they really wanted to know how you were doing, they would ask the question and stop to hear your reply.
So how are you…really? Are you doing great? Do you have some exciting news you’ve just been waiting to share with someone and you’re glad someone finally asked? Or are you struggling to put one foot in front of the other wondering if anyone notices that you are barely getting by?
While those who pass by you through the day may or may not care how you’re truly doing, the Lord does care. He wants more than fine for you. He wants you to experience abundant living [John 10:10]. He wants you to experience peace [Philippians 4:7]. He wants you to experience joy [Nehemiah 8:10b]. He has plans for us that are good plans [Jeremiah 29:11]. He is willing to take your burdens and even asks for them [Psalm 55:22; 1 Peter 5:7]. He will give you rest from all of your worries [Matthew 11:28]. He truly cares how you are and wants you to take the time to slow down and tell Him. He will listen to you [Psalm 10:17]. So talk with Him. It’s safe to share your heart with Him. He loves you with an everlasting love [Jeremiahs 31:3].
We are called to be imitators of Christ [Ephesians 1:5]. We must slow down and take the time to listen to others and really care, otherwise, we’re just like everyone else. So, how are you today? I’d really love to know.
