Do your children cut up with you? I think one of the things I love the most about both of my children is their sense of humor and the way they use it to bless me. The other morning my son walked into my office with his backpack on his back, car keys in hand and said, “Dearest Mother, I’m leaving on a jet plane. Don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh, Mother, I hate to go.” Then we both burst out laughing.
Well, in just 4 days, my team and I will be leaving on a jet plane. We will be gone 14 days, so we know when we’ll be back, but we have no idea what the Lord will do in us and through us in those 14 days. We’ve been preparing for this journey for a year. We’ve raised funds, gotten vaccinations, purchased supplies, prayed, prepared messages to share, and now we’re leaving. Our excitement has almost overwhelmed us as the day approaches.
Some people have asked why we feel the need to go overseas to do God’s work. The answer is clear. We don’t. We don’t have to go overseas to be used by God for the Kingdom. We are called to do it here in our own spheres of influence. But if we read the Word of God, we’ll soon discover we are also called to go. Matthew 28:18-20 says “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Those are clear instructions for all believers.
Acts 1:8 says “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” The word “or” is nowhere in the verse. We don’t get to pick and choose where we serve God if we are obedient to Him. We are to go wherever He sends us.
Sometimes He calls us to go overseas through prayer and we support full time missionaries or short term teams on our knees. He also calls us to give financially and we make donations to missionaries or mission based organizations. However, there are times He calls us to pack our bags, set aside our fears, and go. For the seven of us, we are answering that call. As we’ve been singing for 11 months: “We’re going to Ghana! We’re going to Ghana!”
What is He calling you to do today? Is He asking you to pray, give or go? How will you respond to the call?

Team Members: Margaret, Susan, Kelli, JoAnn, Kim, Gina and Kellie.
We will post from Ghana as often as possible. Please keep us in your prayers.
