Are you married? I have been blessed to be married for 19 years. My parents celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary yesterday. They are so young; it’s hard to imagine they’ve been married that long. They are a great encouragement to me and my brothers. In our society, it is hard to find couples who have been married for 19 years let alone 49. We are truly blessed and know it.
We live in a fast food, drive through nation where everything seems to be quick and/or disposable. There is little that seems to withstand the test of time. It used to be appliances were made to last. If you have an appliance that belonged to your grandparents, it probably still runs. Today; however, things are made to break so they will need to be replaced quicker. Have you ever noticed that your cell phone starts to act up and give you trouble just about the time your 2 year contract is up for renewal? Cars are the same way. They start to break down the moment their warranty runs out.
Fortunately, God isn’t here today and gone tomorrow. He is faithful and true [Psalm 33:4]. When He enters into a relationship with you, He is in it for the long haul. In Matthew 28:20 Jesus says “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” I don’t know about you, but that looks like forever to me. Throughout scripture He promises He will never leave us nor forsake us [Deuteronomy 31:6 and 8; Joshua 1:5; and 1 Kings 8:57]. With everything else in life uncertain, it’s comforting to know there is one constant, Jesus Christ. Rest in the knowledge and understanding of who Jesus is and He is here for you. He reminds us in Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
