What are you hoping to accomplish in 2011? Are you looking for a new job? Planning a wedding? Do you have a dream house you want to build? A new year is a clean slate filled with possibilities. Have you taken the time this year to ask God what He wants to do through you? Don’t worry if you haven’t. It’s just January 4th. There are still 361 days left in the year. It’s not like you’ve blown it.
God has amazing plans for you [Jeremiah 29:11]. He has wonderful things He wants to see you accomplish. I can’t begin to know what those things are, but He does. He might be calling you to a new career. Maybe He is going to relocate you somewhere this year where people need to hear about Jesus and you will be His vessel to spread the word. He might be calling you to a go on a short term mission trip or adopt from a foreign country. The only way to know what God plans for you to do this year is to ask Him. Jeremiah 33:3 says “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” He doesn’t want to keep things from you.
Don’t be surprised if He tells you something that sounds impossible. God tends to call us to do things we cannot possibly do on our own. Do not be discouraged when He does. In fact, we should expect it. If we have spent any time reading scripture, we read over and over about Him calling His people to do things that are impossible in their own strength, but are certain with the help of the Lord [Matthew 19:26].
God called Noah to build and ark in an area where there were no major bodies of water. Then He told Noah to take two of every of every living creature, male and female, on the ark. How would Noah possibly have time to build an ark and then travel the world searching for two of every kind of creature? Once he found them, how in the world would he convince them to come with him to the ark and get on it? How would he keep the panther, the lion and the cheetah from eating the other animals? It just seemed impossible. All Noah had to do was his part, build the ark. God stepped in and Genesis 7:8-9 tells us “Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and all creatures that move along the ground, male and female, came to Noah…” Noah didn’t have to go looking for the animals. God brought the animals to Noah and He apparently told them to be on their best behavior because no one ate anyone else. Only God could have brought that about.
What is He calling you to do this year? Does it seem beyond you? Good, then you know it is truly a God sized assignment and He is going to step into it and make the impossible possible. Will you do your part? Will you trust Him to show up? If you do, you’ll experience His glory.
