Have you ever been caught between a rock and a hard place? You know the feeling, when you’ve run into a wall one way and if you turn to go the other way, you face the enemy breathing down your neck so you have nowhere to go. What do you do in those situations?
Moses literally experienced being caught between his enemy and the Red Sea. He had nowhere to go, or so it seemed [Exodus 14:1-31]. Moses had yet to factor in God. With God, all things are possible [Matthew 19:26].
So many times when we read the story of the Red Sea, we focus on the parting of it and miss out on several of the other treasures God left for us. First and foremost, we are reminded in this story of how the Lord goes before us, leading the way [Exodus 13:21]. Not only did He lead the way they should go, but He came to their aid covering their back when trouble tried to come behind them. He put Himself as a barrier between Israel and Egypt [Exodus 14:19]. Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” If we will follow the Lord’s lead, He will deliver us from trouble as well, even when it seems like we’re in the middle of it with nowhere to turn.
One of the most beautiful verses in this chapter is 14: “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” We don’t have to do it. Hallelujah! The Lord not only leads us the way we should go and covers our back; He fights our battle. We can “be still and know” He is God [Psalm 46:10]. When God fights for us, when He goes after our enemy, He wipes them out completely [vs. 28].
Friend, whatever you’re battling today be still. Trust in the One who has you covered. Rest in Him. He has it. He will fight for you and when He is finished, the enemy will be gone, wiped out completely. Now that is something to celebrate!
