Do you still have your wisdom teeth? After almost two years of braces, my daughter received the news she has to have her wisdom teeth out. This isn’t simply pulling teeth. They are impacted and will require oral surgery to remove them. We can’t see them if she opens her mouth, but Dr. Bankston took x-rays of them and showed us how they are turned. He said they will cause damage to her other teeth allowed to remain. So, bright and early tomorrow morning she will have her wisdom teeth removed. Doesn’t that sound like a lovely way to begin summer?
Sin damages our lives. It is easy for us to recognize sin when it is blatant in our lives. We see it and so does everyone else. We know it has to go, so we confess it and move on with life. The difficulty arises when we have hidden sin. It could be something we are doing privately that no one else knows about or it could be something we did long ago we never confessed and asked God to forgive us for, just hoping He’d forget about it. We may have hidden this sin from others; however, we must remember Hebrews 4:13: “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”
Dr. Bankston took an x-ray and was able to see things hidden deep inside Laura’s mouth; the Lord can search our hearts and see everything we have hidden from others [Jeremiah 17:10]. While we can’t remove the sin on our own, He can remove it as far as the east is from the west [Psalm 103:12]. Leaving sin in our lives will only bring destruction. It will works its way in our lives until it overtakes everything [Luke 13:21]. If we want the sin removed we have to give the Lord permission to remove it and we do so by confessing our sins to Him [1 John 1:9]. The removal may be temporarily uncomfortable or difficult; however, the end result will be worth it [Psalm 30:5].
