Are you the one who gets the mail from the mailbox at your house? My husband teases me because I like to be the one to get the mail each day. I don’t know why. I guess it’s because you never know what you’re going to receive. It might be a letter from a friend, a sale flyer advertising something you simply can’t live without or it could be a bill. I especially love it when UPS or FedEx comes to the door with a package. The funny thing is I get excited even if it isn’t for me.
Sometimes the UPS man or the FedEx man requires a signature before they’ll give you the package they’re delivering. I’ve received packages for my neighbor before, when she wasn’t home, and I was required to sign for her package. When you sign your name you are saying I’m willing to take ownership of the package.
Our Daddy has many wonderful gifts in store for each of us. We know if they are Him, they are good gifts [Matthew 7:11]. He gives us all gifts [1 Corinthians 12:4-11]. When gifts from Daddy are delivered, we can take them as our own and use them. We do; however, need to keep in mind there is another who likes to send us gifts, but his gifts aren’t mean for our good or the good of others. His gifts are meant to kill, steal and destroy us [John 10:10]. They may be wrapped in pretty paper, but they are filled with lies [John 8:44]. When they are delivered, by a stranger or someone we know and love, we do not have to receive them and take ownership of them. We have the power and authority to decline. We can stamp them “return to sender” and send them on their way [James 4:7].
When we realize something isn’t true just because another speaks it about us, we will find freedom. Jesus is truth [John 14:6].
Now having said this, we need to remember there are words of correction that come from the Lord. Those words are delivered in love and are for our greater good. Those words are intended to shape us and mold us more into the likeness of Christ. Proverbs 27:6 reminds us “Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.”
All truth comes into alignment with Him, so if we’re not sure if something is true or not, sift it. If it aligns with the truth of God, we can trust it to be true and if not, then refuse delivery. It’s time we stopped receiving and believing Satan’s lies and start embracing God’s truth. When the doorbell to your heart rings with a special delivery, how will you respond?
Soooo, we have something else in common. I am a mail-kinda girl too. Greg says that I might die if I don’t pick up the mail every day. I think it is genetic. My Daddy was like that. How funny!!
I love your comparison of receiving mail and embracing God’s gifts. Good word, Susan!
