What can you truly count on today? This morning as I woke up to get ready for my daughter’s surgery, the power blinked on and off two or three times. It did the same thing several times last night due to storms. I realized I couldn’t count on it to be on long enough for me to dry my hair if I washed it, so I decided to use the flat iron on it and grab a hat until I brought her back home.
I like to think I can count on people, but in all honesty I’ve been let down at least once by those I’d say I could count on in my life. It’s human nature. We’re not perfect. We can try to be, but we’re all going to mess up from time to time.
So is there anything we can count on completely? The answer is Jesus. He is the only thing we can put total confidence in and know He will come through for us. Revelation 19:11 declares His name to be Faithful and True. He may not come through for us in the way we expect Him to or even want Him to, but He will always come through for us [Isaiah 55:8].
Laura has been a bit anxious about her surgery this morning and the assurance I gave her is Jesus will be with her through it all. He will never leave her nor forsake her [Deuteronomy 31:6,8]. The amazing thing about God, and where He’s different from anyone else in the world, is He will be with me during that time also.
What are you counting on today? Psalm 20:7 reminds us of our greatest confidence: “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” Your trust will never be misplaced when you place it in Jesus.
