Do you like leftovers? When we first got married, my husband wanted me to cook enough to have leftovers so he could take his lunch to work. We only had one problem; he seemed to eat whatever I cooked.
Jesus never had that problem. There was always an abundance of leftovers when He fed people. There were never squabbles over food because there were baskets full of whatever He served. Mark 8:8 says “The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.”
With Jesus you can count on leftovers. He isn’t the God of just enough. He is the God of more than enough. We can count on the Lord to provide and provide well. It may not come in the time we think it should or come packaged the way we expect, but we can be sure when the Lord provides, we will be satisfied.
Have you heard the expression “Hind sight is always 20/20”? If you question God’s faithfulness to meet your needs in a given situation, take some time to reflect on how He has responded to your needs in the past. Even the disciples struggled with this issue. In Mark 8:14-21, the disciples think He is angry with them because they forgot to bring bread with them in their travels. In His frustration, Jesus reminds them of how He provided bread for five thousand first and then four thousand and there were always leftovers. Basically, what He was saying to them was “Seriously! You think I can feed five thousand with a boy’s lunch and then feed four thousand with a few loaves of bread, but you don’t think I can feed you because you forgot a load of bread.” Jesus had a pretty good track record with the disciples and if we reflect back on our life, we will see the fingerprints of God. He is faithful and true [Revelation 19:11]. He always has been and He always will be.
Rest in knowing Jesus is walking with you, no matter where you happen to be in life right now. He doesn’t need for you to bring a loaf of bread for Him to provide for you. He’s got it under control. You can rest in His faithfulness and know you will be satisfied.
