Do you get together with friends or family and reminisce of times gone by? This week I gathered with my Ghana Girls, otherwise known as the GGs, because we are at the one year anniversary of our mission trip to Ghana. We sat around the table, sharing lunch and stories from our adventure across Ghana. Some of the stories brought extreme laughter while others brought tears. It strengthened each of us to remember all God had done in and through us a year ago.
Throughout Scripture, the Israelites are brought into remembrance of the faithfulness of God, and at times their lack of faithfulness. In Nehemiah 9, the Israelite gathered to celebrate the rebuilding of the wall. Ezra brings out the scrolls and reads of God’s faithfulness to His people from Abraham to their present day.
Psalm 30:4 says “Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness.” Even today we are called to put ourselves in a posture of remembrance of all God has done for us and through us. It strengthens our faith when we see from our own testimony how He hasn’t left us or forsaken us [Deuteronomy 31:6, 8; Joshua 1:5]. It is one of the reasons we come together as believers [Hebrews 10:25]. We encourage one another with our testimony of His goodness and faithfulness.
Take a moment and reflect on the things God has done in and through you in the past year. You’ll find His fingerprints everywhere, even when you didn’t feel His presence at the time of struggle. He is with us. He goes through the tough stuff with us, by our side [Psalm 23:4]. Would you be willing to share a story or two with someone else? It would strengthen you and them at the same time.
I would love it if a few of you would post a comment of a time recently when God showed His faithfulness. He is faithful and it is time to testify.
