What do you do when trouble comes knocking at your door? When someone at the company has to be let go and you were the last one hired? When the doctor calls with different results than you expected? When someone you thought would be by your side forever exits? Where do you go? Who do you turn to in difficult times?
The world would have you turn to selfish pleasures and indulgences that would numb the pain or harden your heart so you can no longer feel anything. The problem with the first solution is, the numbing factor wears off and you’re still left to face the difficulty before you. The latter solution doesn’t just block the sorrow from reaching your heart, but also the joy.
God offers throughout Scripture to be the place we run to when difficulties come our way. Isaiah 12:2 says “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.” Jeremiah 16:19 says “The Lord is my strength and my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.” Psalm 9:9 says “The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” Psalm 18:2 says “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” The list of Scriptures promising to be our Rock, Redeemer, Restorer, Provider, Help, Refuge, Shield, and Strong Tower is as endless as the list of names we have for our God. No matter what the situation, He is there for you.
What are you facing today? Is it frightening? Do you feel like you’re facing it alone? He has promised He will never leave you nor forsake you [Deuteronomy 31:6,8, Joshua 1:5]. Whatever you have to walk through, He will walk through it with you [Psalm 23:4]. He will take you to the victory side of things it you will trust Him. What or who are you turning to today?
