Do you ever have difficulty deciding whether you should do something or not? It’s usually no big deal when the choices are “Do I have cake or pie for dessert?” but it matters more when you’re trying to decide where to go to college, who to marry, or where to live. When there’s more than two choices, it really gets complicated.
A friend of mine is trying to make a career decision and she just wants to be where God would have her work. I know she’s a bit frustrated right now, but her heart blesses the Lord. He loves it when His children actually want to do what He wants them to do.
When our options are a good choice verses a bad choice, our decision can be easy. But what do you do when your options are a good choice verses a good choice? What do you do? Personally, I believe there is a huge difference between a good thing and God thing and I only want to choose the God things in my life. So how do you ensure you’re choosing a God thing for you?
Ephesians 2:10 says, “we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” If God prepared them in advance, then His plan for us includes doing the things He prepared. Why would He care what we choose? Why does it matter where we work or where we go to college or who we marry? It matters because there are two forces in this world we live in and the enemy is dead set against us doing things God’s way. In fact, he has a three point action plan to keep that from happening [John 10:10].
So how do we avoid walking right into the enemy’s plans and choose what God has for us? Simple. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” When we take the time to pray into our decisions and seek the face of the Father, He will show us the way we should go. He may do it through His word, our circumstances, others, or any number of ways, but He will guide us. So when you’re pulling your hair out because you don’t know what to do, remember Jeremiah 33:3: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” God knows what is best for us and He knows what His plans are for us. Why try and figure it out on your own? Why not just ask Him? Wouldn’t that be easier than banging your head against the wall over a decision?
What decisions are you facing today? Have you taken the time to talk them over with your Father? If not, it’s not too late. He’s always got time for you. You’re His favorite!
