Have you ever been driving down the road and seen something that caused you to stop, back up, and take another look?  I’ve had this happen in two different situations. I’ve driven past a familiar place and seen something that appeared unusual or out of place which caused me to do a double take.  I’ve also driven in an unfamiliar place and been struck by something, and backed up to take a better look or take a picture so I’ll have it to remember.
This morning I was reading through 1 Corinthians 1 when I had to back up and take a closer look.  I’ve read through the Bible from start to finish several times, so I know that no matter what verse I read, I’ve read it before.  However, there are times when I come across a verse that hits me so profoundly I find myself asking, “Did I read this before?”
1 Corinthians 1:25 says, “For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.”  Chew on that for a minute.
How many times do we seek wisdom from a book or another person?  God’s foolishness would guide and direct us more than any wisdom another can offer.  He tells us in James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”  God isn’t holding out on us.  He is available and willing to guide our steps and direct our path.  We can trust in what He has to say without worrying if He’s guiding us down the wrong path [Proverbs 3:5-6].  We can’t say that about mankind.
What about strength?  It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about physical strength, emotional strength, or spiritual strength, God is stronger in all areas.  He has the power to raise the dead with the spoken word [John 11:43].  There’s not a man or woman alive who can do that except by the power of the Holy Spirit.  He can carry us through our darkest valley and bring us out the other side better for having made the journey [Psalm 23:4].
When you’re in need of wisdom or strength, why not go to the One who created it instead of to one He created?  You’ll gain more wisdom and more strength from God than anyone else you could possibly seek.  Why not seek Him today?
