What are you looking at? What draws your attention? When my son was two and a half years old he spent a long weekend with my parents. My mother missed him for a few minutes. He was quiet, which was unusual, so she started searching the house for him. She finally heard him in the kitchen pantry.
Sam, what are you doing?”
Just looking!”
A couple of minutes passed by, and she asked again,
Sam, what are you doing?”
Just looking!”
She finally decided she needed to look herself and she opened the pantry door. There stood Sam with the syrup bottle turned upside down squeezing as hard as his little hands could squeeze, watching the syrup pile up in the floor. He looked up at her and smiled,
Just looking!”
Just looking in that case wasn’t a good or productive thing. At the very best, it was simply entertaining. God; however, spends His time looking with purpose.
Psalm 14:2 says,
The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.”
The Message puts it this way,
God sticks His head out of heaven. He looks around. He’s looking for someone not stupid- one man, even, God-expectant, just one God-ready woman.”
For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.”
