Have you felt called by God to do something only to find it difficult? Two of my friends have known for years they were called to be full time missionaries in Ghana, West Africa. They prayed about it, sought wise counsel, committed to do it, found a sending agency and began training and preparations. It was exciting and they were moving right along. They put their house on the market and it sold quickly. Everything seemed to be moving on fast forward. The day finally arrived for them to board a plane and fly to their new home.
Since arriving in Africa, they’ve found everything to take longer than expected and to come with more hurdles than expected. They’re in an unfamiliar place, having to do things differently than they’re used to and sometimes its just plain hard. It would be easy for them to want to pull up stakes and head home saying, “It’s just too hard.” But I know my friends, the fact that its hard will cause them to press in more.
So many times we think doing what God calls us to do is going to be easy and when it isn’t we act like He’s abandoned us. God never promised us easy. In fact, in John 16:33 He says,
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
He has overcome the world and we can trust when we allow Him to live through us, we will also be overcomers [Romans 8:37]. Life is hard sometimes. We can’t just throw in the towel and call it quits when it gets difficult. We must lean on the One who will never leave us nor forsake us and is strong enough to carry us through [Deuteronomy 31:6, 8, Psalm 23:4].
Are you going through a difficult time right now? You’re not alone. Lean on the Lord. He’s there for you and He will see you through the difficult times to the other side. As the saying goes,
If God brings you to it, He’ll bring you through it!
