Heather and John's weddingHave you been to a wedding lately?  This past weekend I attended a ladies retreat where the decorations were made to look like that of a wedding. Everything was white, with roses, pearls, candles, and even wedding dresses.  It was stunning. The theme was Come Away With Me, My Beloved based on Song of Solomon 2:10

My lover spoke and said to me, “Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me.’”

The message of the event was we are the bride of Christ and Jesus is our bridegroom. He longs for us to come to Him. I couldn’t help but think about weddings on the entire drive home.

One of my daughter’s favorite programs to watch on television is Say Yes to the Dress.  We have seen virtually every episode of it. She loves looking at all the beautiful dresses.  It is such a process choosing the perfect wedding dress for that special day.

If you’ve been a bride, known a bride or married a bride, you know from the moment the engagement takes place, the bride is giddy with excitement and in full blown planning and preparation mode up until the actual wedding day.  The anticipation of it all and the love she has for the man she’s about to marry almost consumes her.  It’s what she talks about, what she dreams about, what she spends her time and attention on almost every free minute of her day.  This goes on for months at a time full speed ahead.

Why don’t we do so in preparation for our big day with Jesus? Why don’t we talk more about Him, focus our time and attention on Him and on preparing ourselves for the big day? After all, the day we accept Him as Lord and Savior of our lives is like the engagement and from then on everything points to the big day when we will see Him face to face.

Revelation 19:7 says,

Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready.”

Why have we allowed the enemy to steal our joy and distract us from making ourselves ready for Him?

Christ is preparing a place for us.  He’s making a home ready for His bride.  That was His promise to us in John 14:2,

In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.”

What can you do today to prepare yourself for His return? Share your thoughts here so we can learn from each other.
