NewspaperHave you picked up a magazine or newspaper lately or read the news online? It only takes one glance to see our world is on a fast train heading south.

Crisis Magazine shined a light on the reality that sex trafficking is as close as our backyard. Eye Witness News reported of a six week old baby being raped by an uncle while the child’s mother and grandmother watched television in another room. The Atlanta Journal and Constitution’s online site, AJC.com,  reported how Tiger Wood‘s half brother was possibly involved in a bomb threat. The New York Times reported how the Belgian Senate voted to allow euthanasia for terminally ill children, as it we have the right to play God. I understand how horrible it is to watch someone you love suffer. But God did not abdicate His throne and ask us to take over. Our world is becoming more and more depraved every day.

Romans 12:2 says,

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is– His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Jesus knows we live in a world of sin and He asked the Father to send us One to guide and direct us [John 17:11, Acts 1:4,8]. While we live in this world, we are not to look like it. We are to be set apart, holy [Hebrews 7:26]. We’re to be a light on a hill pointing others to Jesus [Matthew 5:14].

How on earth do we do this? Simple- by renewing our mind through time alone with Him daily. In doing so, we will be able to discern the will of God and walk in it, by His strength. It’s the only way to successfully live in the world with out becoming of the world.

When you wake up in the morning, what do you go to first… your newspaper, your computer or the Word of God? They may all prepare you for your day, but in completely different ways.

Remember Philippians 4:8-9,

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable– if anything is excellent or praiseworthy– think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me– put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
