Do you have college age children? I do and my son came home late last night for Christmas. It was after 11 p.m. when he got home so we said our hellos, gave hugs and kisses and everyone went to bed. This morning as I came downstairs I noticed evidence of his presence all around the house. There’s a pile of dirty dishes on the counter beside the sink. There’s a pile of dirty laundry beside the washing machine. And there’s a pile of various items in and beside a chair in the den. Sam has made his presence known. He’s left his mark. From now until he heads back to Georgia Tech in January, there will be indicators of his presence throughout our home.
Have you left evidence of God’s presence in your corner of the world? Do people see that God is real, alive, and active in their world through you? As Christ followers, we are called to spread the Lord wherever we go, specifically in our sphere of influence. 2 Corinthians 2:14 says,
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.”
How does it smell where you are? Do you smell the fragrance of the Lord? Does it linger in a place after you’ve departed? We are children of God [John 1:12]. And as such, we need to leave our mark wherever we go. It doesn’t matter if it’s in our workplace among our coworkers, volunteering in a treatment program with sex trafficking survivors, or in our own homes. How are you spreading the fragrance of Christ?
