BUT2Do you have a big but in your life?

  • I’d love to go on a mission trip, but I don’t have the money to go and could never raise it.
  • I’d love to join the fight against sex trafficking, but I don’t have any skills of value to offer.
  • I’d love to help in my community, but I don’t know where to start.
  • I’d be willing to do _______, but I don’t want to be the only one. (You fill in the blank.)

Smith Wigglesworth was a brilliant man of God who spoke great wisdom and truth. He once said,

If there are any “buts” in your attitude towards the Word of truth, then there is something unyielded to the Spirit.”

I would take it one step further and say if there are any buts in your relationship or service to the Lord, then something is unyielded to the Spirit.

Philippians 1:6 says,

being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

You don’t have to sweat the outcome. If God calls you to do something, He’s got you. Philippians 2:13 says,

for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.”

And 1 Thessalonians 5:24 says,

The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it.”

With God’s promises to come to our aid and work through us to accomplish what He calls us to do, we have nothing to lose. All He needs for us to do is agree to partner with Him [Isaiah 6:8]. He’ll take it from there.

I will never forget arguing with God about writing Rescuing Hope. Our conversation went something like this:

Me: God, why don’t you call Terri Blackstock or Max Lucado to write this book. They’re great authors and it would be a great book. I don’t have a clue about how to write a book.

God: That’s true. But if Terri Blackstock or Max Lucado write this book and it’s good, they’ll get the praise and glory. We both know you don’t know how to write a book, so if you do it and it’s good, I’ll get the glory.

Can I just be honest and tell you I wasn’t offended. I knew what I was and wasn’t capable of in my own strength and it wasn’t writing a book. But something happened based on the calls, emails and Facebook messages I’ve received from readers. Rescuing Hope touched their hearts and awakened them to the call of sex trafficking in America, which was the purpose for the book.

God is faithful [Deuteronomy 7:9, 1 Corinthians 1:9]. He will ALWAYS do His part. What’s stopping you from doing yours?
