Do you have a Facebook page? I do and I am on it fairly regularly, posting articles on sex trafficking as well as praises for great things that happen in the fight. I tend to skim over other things, trying to avoid being sucked in for hours. Sometimes there are stories and posts that just draw you in and demand your attention.
This morning I read a post by a friend who shared a conversation between her and a little boy God has brought into her life. It was precious. He wanted to know,
…what’s more important, worshiping God or getting some work done?”
They were discussing why she wasn’t at church Sunday. He went on to ask about God’s importance and place of priority in his life. I just love the honesty of children. He asked,
…are we really supposed to love God more than our work and our friends? Even my mom?”
The tenderness of this little one wanting to make sure God has His proper place in his life moved me. I’m thankful for the wisdom God gave my dear friend. Her response was beautiful,
Yes, honey, even your mom. But who gave you your mom and all the people in your life who love you?”
God?”
Yep. God. Know why?”
Why?”
Because He loves you. And, because He loves your mom, and all the people who love and care for you.”
As adults, we could all learn something from this little guy. We need to keep the main thing the main thing. If we would, everything else would find a way of working out, because He loves us.
Mark 12:30 says,
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
We are to love Him with all that we are and all that we have. We all seem to understand this command and rarely do we argue with it, even if we don’t do it. But we are also to make Him number one on our priority list. That seems to be a bigger struggle for some. He is clear about this in His word, even though many like to gloss over it. Matthew 10:37 says,
Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me”
If you make Him first He will take care of everything else. He’s a good Father and He loves you and loves to give you good things [Matthew 7:11].
So let’s take a minute and get real. Let’s be honest with ourselves. Who or what is number one on your priority list? Do you need to make in adjustments on the list?
