Home baseDid you ever play tag growing up? Someone is IT  and that person runs around trying to tag the others who hide, run, and do everything within their power to stay away from IT. If a player gets tired of running and hiding, she can run to home base, which is usually a tree or stump somewhere, and as long as she’s at base IT cannot get to her.

My brothers used to get mad if I spent too much time at base and tell me I had to keep running. We played tag for hours on end when I was a young girl.

Isn’t it funny how the strangest things will pop in your mind from time to time. I hadn’t thought about playing tag since my children were little. This morning as I reflected on playing it a thought occurred to me. We all play tag in life. Satan is IT and his goal is to keep us running and exhausted, always on the go.

Fortunately for us, God is home base. When we run to Him, we find rest [Psalm 62:5]. Psalm 46:10 says,

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

When we run to the Father, we are safe. We’re at home base. He is our shelter, our safe place.

Psalm 91:1 says,

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

I don’t know how crazy your day is today or how many things are on your to do list. I don’t know what burdens may be weighing you down, but I do know where you can find rest. Run to Home Base. Nothing can harm you there.
