State FarmDo you ever pay attention to commercials? I mean other than Super Bowl time? Every now and then there will be one that has a jingle that sticks with you or the commercial will make you laugh so you remember it.

State Farm made sure everyone knew their jingle,

Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.”

Then they capitalized on it by using it in the latest run of commercials by having the customer say the jingle and the agent immediately appears. Some are rescues from imminent danger.

Others are less traumatic situations.

Either way, the point is the same… you call out and State Farm shows up. It was very good marketing on someone’s part.

Yesterday, my pastor preached on the 23rd Psalm,

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”

(There are just some things you have to read in the King James Version, aren’t there?)

As he read the scripture and talked about the Good Shepherd and what we could learn from Him, I kept hearing the music to the State Farm commercial in my head but with the words,

Like a good shepherd, Jesus is there.”

I almost laughed out loud. The reality is, Jesus is far more reliable than State Farm or any other insurance company, organization or individual. And all you have to do is call out to Him and He will be there.

Jeremiah 33:3 says,

‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.'”

In fact, He’s promised to never leave us nor forsake us [Deuteronomy 31:6, 8, Joshua 1:9]. It doesn’t matter if you’re out shopping with a friend, sitting in your quiet place by yourself, or in the middle of an extreme crisis, call out to Jesus and He’ll be there for you.

***I will be taking the remainder of the week off to spend with my family visiting from Colorado. Enjoy your week and I’ll see you back here on June 8th.
