Children should be found in schools, not brothels!

It's about that time again. You know the time.... when traffic in the city feels like it's doubled because you have to encounter Big Yellow everywhere you go. Who is Big Yellow? Big Yellow is the school bus and he seems to be everywhere and always, somehow, in front of you slowing down your frantic race to your next destination. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it's back to school time. For me, a North Carolinian, it seems way to early to be sending children to school. In North Carolina the summer months are June, July and August. They even passed a [...]

Just wait 5 minutes…

What was the weather like at your house yesterday? It was sunny and 76 degrees in Atlanta. People were walking around in shorts and flip flops. Today it's raining and dropping in the 40s.  It's crazy how the weather can change so drastically in less than 24 hours. I've often heard it said, If you don't like the weather in Atlanta, just wait five minutes." Is it any wonder one of the first things I do in the morning is check the weather, even if I watched the weather forecast the night before. The weather isn't the only thing that [...]

Who do you prefer?

Have you ever traveled to the Pacific Northwest? I spent the last two days in Spokane, Washington speaking about sex trafficking and was different from Atlanta, Georgia. One thing I knew about Washington is they take their coffee seriously. Starbucks, the coffee shop that is most recognizable around Georgia and the world, was founded in Seattle, Washington. I expected to see them everywhere; however, while in Spokane I discovered a large variety of coffee shops, with Starbucks being the weaker presence. The majority of their coffee shops are honestly the size of an outhouse and they're drive through only. They're more like coffee huts [...]

Forgiving Forward, a great life principle!

Do you read a lot? I love to read, especially at night to unwind after a long day. I tend to read non-fiction during the day and reserve my bedtime reading for fiction. Rarely will I come across a non-fiction book that captivates me to the point I don't want to put it down and opt to read it at bedtime over fiction. Forgiving Forward by Dr. Bruce and Toni Hebel was one of those books. I started reading it one afternoon when it arrived in the mail and I hardly put it down until I finished it. I first [...]

The Fight Can Be Fun

Piedmont Park Did you have a good weekend? It was beautiful here in Atlanta. Did you get outside and enjoy the warm weather? Or did you take a trip for Father's Day? There was a lot going on in Atlanta not just for family fun, but also in the fight against sex trafficking in America. People often ask me, What can I possibly do to make a difference?" My husband and I spent Saturday morning in Piedmont Park running the Wellspring Living Run for One 5K. The weather was perfect for a morning run and the scenery was spectacular. There [...]

Better than a Vitamix!

Do you drink smoothies? Our family loves them. When my son was home, he would make a smoothie a day, usually following a workout. I needed to buy stock in frozen strawberries. My problem with smoothies is the blender. It was notorious for failing to fully mix everything, leaving chunks of fruit or cubes of ice in the smoothie, thus taking the smooth out of smoothie. Kevin Avery, of 104.7 the Fish, talks about working out a lot and drinking smoothies after workouts or for meal replacements. People have called into his show to talk about their smoothie woes, and [...]

You Won’t Believe This and It Really Happened

What does a pimp look like? Where does he operate? How does he gain possession of a new girl? These are questions we all need to think about. The answers might surprise you. A lot of people still have the 1970s picture of a pimp in their mind. You know the one: 1. big hat 2. leisure suit 3.  jacked up car 4. dice hanging from the rear view mirror The only place you'll find a pimp like that now is in the movies. Today's pimp looks like the guy next door, and in fact, he might be. Where do [...]

How are you carrying it?

Do you like quotes? I have a notebook of my favorite quotes. Some of them are from famous people, like Billy Graham, Mother Teresa , or Bill Cosby. Others are things friends of mine or pastors have said that hold a great deal of meaning for me, so I wrote them down. This morning I came across this quote by Lena Horne and had to ponder it a minute. It's weighty. It carries a lot of truth. I thought back to last week when Atlanta was hit by the snow and ice so quickly, leaving hundreds of drivers stranded on the [...]

On the move….

Are you a baseball fan? If so, you've likely heard the buzz around the Atlanta Braves. They stunned everyone when they announced on Monday morning they would be relocating from Turner Field in downtown Atlanta northwest to Cobb County, still in the metro Atlanta area. The reason for the move? Many reports say they Braves wanted a convenient location with more than a ballpark. They want to create an experience, thus providing restaurants, shopping and lodging close by as a draw to baseball fans as well as easy access to major interstates. This announcement was a huge shock to those [...]

Three ways to fulfill your purpose…

Do you know a missionary? We have friends who served in Ghana, West Africa for eleven years. We had the opportunity to take short term mission teams to work with them during their time there. It was amazing to see how God used them to reach the people of Ghana. During the eleven years they served in Ghana, they lived life along side the locals, attending the same churches, schools and shopping in the same marketplace. They lived life, but they did so intentionally. Acts 1:8 speaks about being God's witness.  It says, But you will receive power when [...]
