What shapes you? What makes you who you are?

Did you ever watch Mr. Rogers as a child? This morning as I signed onto Facebook to send out birthday greetings to friends, a clip from a Mr. Rogers episode caught my eye. The thought of that show takes me back to the living room of the house I grew up in on Saxon Court. I couldn't help but watch it. If you're a fan of Mr. Rogers, you can watch it here. The clip caused me to reflect on television shows and movies that impacted me as a child. I have always loved movies, whether on television or in [...]

Sweet Dreams!

Are you a dreamer? Or I guess a better question would be do you remember your dreams? Researchers have determined all people dream- men, women, children, even babies dream. One researcher said, During a typical lifetime, people spend an average of six years dreaming!" That's a lot of dreams. There's another interesting tidbit I found out about dreams. Men and women dream differently. According to dream researcher William Domhoff, women tend to have slightly longer dreams that feature more characters." That just made me laugh out loud. Even in our sleep, women have to get more words and details in [...]

No matter where you go, it’s still there!

Did you have a nice weekend? My husband and I experienced our first holiday weekend as empty nesters. We decided rather than lamenting on the fact our children weren't coming home for Easter, we would go away for the weekend. We traveled to Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville is a fun town to visit if you are a foodie or a lover of music, of which I'm both. We had a great time exploring different restaurants and eateries throughout the city. We started at Puckett's, an old grocery store turned restaurant, where we kicked back eating delicious food and listening to singer/songwriters share [...]

What were you thinking?

Do you easily share your thoughts with others? Or do you keep them locked away in a secret place for no one but yourself? There's an old expression, A penny for your thoughts." The first time the phrase was documented in print was in the 1546 publication of John Heywood's book, The Proverbs of John Heywood. He was an English writer among other things. While you may or may not value a penny, you do need to value your thoughts and choose them carefully. God clearly states in His Word that our thoughts matter. The enemy is quite crafty and he [...]

Bring Back Our Girls!!!!

Have you read anything about the girls being kidnapped in Nigeria? Unless you've been walking around with your head in the sand, you've at least heard about it. You don't have to be someone who watches the news or even reads a newspaper to learn about what's happening. It's being posted all over Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media. It's being talked about on virtually every radio station in some form or another. Nearly three weeks ago, close to 300 girls were kidnapped from their school. Then other stories followed stating, ...new details were emerging about the abduction of at [...]

I finally went to jail…….

"Have you ever been to jail?" That was the question I asked my pastor two years ago when I was trying to find a way to visit a young woman charged with prostitution who called me. It's much harder than you think to get into jail when you aren't the one incarcerated.  However, yesterday, I made my first visit to the jail. The mother of a young inmate contacted me after reading Rescuing Hope to tell me, I'm Amanda, Hope's mother. My daughter is being prostituted." While every girl brought to my attention is heartbreaking, this one was especially so [...]
