Who do you prefer?

Have you ever traveled to the Pacific Northwest? I spent the last two days in Spokane, Washington speaking about sex trafficking and was different from Atlanta, Georgia. One thing I knew about Washington is they take their coffee seriously. Starbucks, the coffee shop that is most recognizable around Georgia and the world, was founded in Seattle, Washington. I expected to see them everywhere; however, while in Spokane I discovered a large variety of coffee shops, with Starbucks being the weaker presence. The majority of their coffee shops are honestly the size of an outhouse and they're drive through only. They're more like coffee huts [...]

Do you need a good warshing?

North Carolina Farmer's Market Have you purchased a pumpkin this fall? They seem to come in all shapes and sizes and come with a variety of price tags too. I like to create a colorful display of pumpkins and gourds on my front porch, but it can become costly. I've started buying my unique colored and shaped pumpkins and gourds at the Farmer's Market and then stopping by Walmart for my traditional orange, round pumpkin, because I can get it there for $4. I'm trying to be a good steward of what God gives me. A couple of [...]

Who goes to jail?

Who goes to jail? When police have a bust in a hotel room where prostitution is taking place, who goes to jail? Historically, the pimp (the seller of sex) was nowhere to be found, the john (the purchaser of sex) was sent on his way and the girl was the one put in handcuffs and carted downtown for mug shots and lockup. She was the one soliciting, therefore, she's the criminal. Thankfully, because of grassroots efforts and faith based organizations uniting to raise awareness, that has changed. In the state of Georgia groups gathered to lobby for stiffer penalties for [...]

Small and insignificant or large and powerful?

Did your children ever collect anything when they were little? My son, Sam, used to love to gather acorns. I think it started when he was about two years old. When he would go to my parent’s house to visit, he and my mom would gather acorns and put them in a sand bucket. It was their special thing they did together. We moved to Georgia when Sam was three. I took the kids to the park close to our house to take a break from unpacking. Sam explored the playground while I pushed Laura in the swing. He walked [...]

Do I know you?

Have you ever met someone for the first time and had an instant connection with them? You  feel completely comfortable, and can easily discuss things, even though you've known each other for less than a few minutes.  It never ceases to amaze me how often this happens. This past weekend I had the opportunity to speak at the DOLL Conference in Fitzgerald, Georgia. Fitzgerald is a small town in South Georgia. The church where the event was held reminded me a lot of my husband's home church in Whiteville, North Carolina.  The youth pastor arranged for us to have dinner [...]

Bring trafficking to an end in Georgia!

Luke 4:18 [KJV] Today is Lobby Day at the state capitol in Georgia.  I will be joining individuals from Wellspring Living, Out of Darkness, youthSpark, Street Grace, and others as we unite our voices as a voice for hope for the hundreds of Hopes held captive in the state of Georgia. If you cannot join us in person, please join us in prayer, as we speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves [Proverbs 31:8a].  Write and/or email your elected officials today, asking them to: Pass legislation that requires the posting of the National Human Trafficking Hotline number in bars, hotels, and venues where [...]

Speak Up!

What does it mean to lobby for something? Lobbying means to actively try to influence legislation on a specified topic.  It means to use your voice, be it in person, via mail or email, to draw awareness to an issue and ask legislators to do something about the issue.  It is our constitutional right and responsibility to let our elected officials know how we'd like them to vote. This Thursday, February 7th, is Lobby Day  in Georgia on the issue of human sex trafficking in America.  Men and women from across the state of Georgia will come together on the [...]
