This calls for war!

Have you seen the movie War Room yet? It released this past week and is doing quite well in the box office, ranking number 2 this weekend and bringing in an estimated $10.7M. It is proving, by it's own tagline, that prayer is a powerful weapon. As the fifth movie made by the Kendrick Brothers, War Room starred some recognizable faces in the faith community. Well known speaker, teacher, and writer, Beth Moore made a cameo appearance in the movie, while fellow speaker, teacher, writer, Priscilla Shrier, starred in the movie. When asked why she thought it was important to make a movie [...]

Is it Grey or Black and White?

Are you a book person or do you prefer movies? I honestly enjoy both. Obviously, when I read the book and see the movie I am going to prefer one over the other, usually the book. I like the creative license a book gives me to make the characters look the way I want them to look and the scenery painted the way I see it in my mind's eye. There's a book that stirred up quite a controversy when it released in 2011, Fifty Shades of Grey. The conversation is being revisited because of the movie by the same [...]

The Best Marinade Ever!

Do you like to cook? It is one of my favorite things to do.  I love cooking on the weekends when we're not rushing in a million different directions. I can try new recipes. I like marinading meat overnight before putting it on the grill. By soaking in a marinade over a long period of time, the meat becomes infused with the flavors. This only happens when it is allowed to soak. If I only put the meat in the marinade for a few minutes, I won't taste a hint of flavor once it's cooked. The marinade will more than likely burn [...]

To Abstain or Not?

Are you participating in Lent? Lent is the Christian season of preparation before Easter that runs for forty days. Typically, individuals abstain from something as an act of sacrifice for the Lord. The purpose of the sacrifice is to focus on Jesus and all He sacrificed for our sins [John 3:16, Romans 5:8]. I've heard of people abstaining from a variety of things: dessert television coffee chocolate soft drinks eating out movies The list goes on and on. I have asked friends in person and on Facebook if they're giving up something for Lent and, if so, why. Some responses [...]

Are you seriously okay with that?

How does it happen? How does it suddenly become okay for one person to pay to rape another person? It doesn't..... I mean it doesn't happen suddenly. We live in a culture that shapes and molds us from a very early age to objectify women. People will reference movies and even television programs from time to time, pointing out the objectification of women. Others simply spout out, "Don't watch them if they offend you." What about the television commercials? Since when has provocative suntanning, that is so sexually explicit Youtube puts a warning for sexually graphic content on the video, [...]

What comes out when you squeeze?

How do you squeeze toothpaste on your toothbrush? Do you squeeze from the middle thus creating a bow effect with the tube? Or do you push the toothpaste to the end of the tube and then squirt, leaving part of the tube flattened with the other end bulging? These are important things to know. People have had knockdown drag-out fights over less than this. We can learn a lot from a tube of toothpaste and what happens to it when it's squeezed. For example, when you squeeze the tube of toothpaste, however you squeeze, what comes out of it? Toothpaste, [...]

What’s keeping you?

My Wedding, July 13, 1991 Do you have any old VHS movies? We got rid of most of ours when we got rid of our VCR; however, we have a few we just couldn't part with, one of which is our wedding video.  My copy got messed up somehow and has no sound, so my mother mailed her copy to me and it arrived yesterday. We popped it into the small TV/VCR combo we still have to make sure the sound worked and found ourselves watching it. It's been over twenty-two years since that I walked down the [...]

Porn, who does it really harm?

Do you watch movies? I love a good movie, but I avoid horror movies.  I just don't like paying good money to be scared half to death. I see no purpose in it.  Now I can go for a good action movie or suspense thriller any day like the Bourne Supremacy, Taken, or Red. While I enjoy them, they tend to get my heart racing at times. Have you ever wondered why?  Have you ever asked yourself why you lean forward in a theater to get a better look? I remember being in fifth grade when the fire lady  (That's what we [...]

What movies will you see this holiday season?

Have you seen any good movies lately?  It seems like we’ve had a lull of quality choices, but I’m very excited about the release of Les Miserables starring Anne Hathaway.  To be honest, I never read the book nor did I know much about the play or movie until a recent article came out about Hathaway's role in the movie. I’m not into celebrity stalking; that’s not what drew my attention to the article.  The Examiner.com did a story about Hathaway’s role in the movie as Fantine, a poor girl turned prostitute. The writer shared that Hathaway read everything she [...]
