Are you covered?

"Um, is this working?" Did it rain at your house last night? We had a torrential downpour here in Atlanta, accompanied by thunder, lightning and the occasional flicker of the power. It wouldn't have been so bad except we had fifteen college age kids crammed in one room for Bible study, without their cell phones. We have a practice of leaving our cell phones in the bowl at the door when we come in so we don't get distracted, so when the power went off no one had a flashlight handy. Thankfully, it only stayed off about a [...]

Look out! Danger’s lerking!

Have you ever been in a car accident? I've only been in one and thankfully, it was minor. On my trip to Kentucky and back, I passed multiple car accidents. Some were minor; however, others were not so fortunate. One accident I passed blocked all three lanes of the interstate and had traffic at a standstill for miles. There were multiple rescue vehicles present and it appeared paramedics were working on multiple people in the middle of the road. I couldn't help but think those people being attended to were somebody's brother or sister, someone's son or daughter. When I was about [...]

Take cover! It’s rough out there.

The Wet Rat Look (I'm starting a new trend.) Are you a runner? I think I've made it perfectly clear that I am NOT a runner; however, this summer I've been running to train for a 5K with my son who has been studying abroad all summer.  It has been a way to stay connected to him. I have forced myself to wake up early and run at least three days a week in preparation, rain or shine.  It's been easy to say rain or shine because it hasn't rained a single morning I was supposed to run... until [...]

Do you need new lenses?

Do you ever just have one of those days? You know, where everything seems to be going wrong.  Today was the day. I woke up to a torrential downpour outside and the temperatures were substantially cooler than the past few days.  I'm a spring/summer girl.  I'd already gotten used to the nice short sleeve weather and sunshine, even though it had only been a few days.  How does the song go? "Some days are diamonds, some days are stones..." I woke my daughter up and ventured downstairs to take care of the dog.  As I was placing the dog's bowl before her [...]

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Do you remember singing the song, “Rain, rain, go away.  Come again another day….” when you were in elementary school?  These past few days I’ve found myself singing it over and over in my head.  I can tolerate just about any type of weather, but I don’t like it when it rains.  It’s messy.  Dogs and people tend to track wet feet through the house leaving a trail behind them. Umbrellas never seem to fully shield you from it and it makes driving more difficult. However, there are some great benefits to rain we don’t readily see.  Rain brings the [...]
