He’s a Great Writer!

My Newest Journal Do you journal? I have been journaling off and on for years. It is a wonderful way for me to process my thoughts and feelings. It is also a way for me to record what I feel the Lord is saying to me, Scripture verses that speak deeply to me in a season of life and even song lyrics that speak to my heart. My husband shared with me this weekend that he wanted to read back through some of his old journals, so he started pulling them out and found every one from his [...]

Lest We Forget

Do you like to sing old hymns? With all of the contemporary worship out there, hymns seem to be few and far between in church services today. Thankfully, there are some contemporary worship leaders who have woven them into their music sets. Others, like David Crowder and Chris Tomlin, have even recorded a few, such Amazing Grace and O Thou Fount of Every Blessing. There are some song lyrics people have to think about to grasp their meaning. Like in one of my favorite songs, O How He Loves, there are people who have inquired about the line,  if grace is an [...]

Do you remember?

Do you have a favorite Christmas decoration? Something you pull out year after year that represents a special person or place? I love my nativity scenes. I have started collecting them. I have a nativity scene made out of olive wood from the Holy Land a friend brought me back from her trip there. When I look at this particular nativity scene, it makes me think of my dear friend but it also causes me to long for the day when I will be able to go to Israel and see the sights for myself. I have a hand carved [...]

Where are you looking?

Do you like to reflect on the past? It is important to remember the past and thank God for the amazing things He's done in us and through us. It is important also to reflect on past mistakes we've made, so we don't repeat them. However, when we pitch a tent in the past, trying to live there, we aren't living in a healthy way. When God safely delivered the Israelites through circumstances, He commanded them to build altars for remembrance of His faithfulness, however, He never told them to stay in those places [Deuteronomy 27:1-9]. He also commanded Lot's [...]

“Go home, Rusty dog, go home!”

Does your family like to tell stories of things that happened in the past? It never seems to fail when my family comes together the story telling begins. Sometimes a new story will be added to the mix, but you can always count on someone bringing up and old story and telling it as if those gathered around have never heard it. One of my funniest memories of my sister-in-law, Kim, is when we were all gathered around the dinner table and my mother started into a story we’d all heard a million times.  Apparently, Kim wasn’t up to hearing [...]

What did He tell you?

Do you ever read a story in scripture and have something jump out at you that you didn't notice before? You find yourself wondering if God just slipped it in there since the last time you read it. Easter Sunday our pastor read Luke 24:1-12. It's quite possible your pastor preached from the same text.  Tom Tanner, senior pastor of Riverstone Church, preached a great message and I'd encourage you to check it out here.  However, the verse that jumped out at me was not something he highlighted in his sermon.  It was verse 6, He is not here; He [...]

A Picture is Worth 1000 Words

Do you have any scrapbooks?  Maybe you scrapbook as a hobby.  I'm pretty certain I need to join a group of some sort, because scrapbooking for me is an addiction.  I've made 80+ scrapbooks in the past nineteen years.  Let's just say my children knew what to do whenever a camera was in their face.  No one every had to say, "Say cheese" to them.  They knew the drill like an actress on the red carpet. My son is home from college on spring break this week.  We were supposed to be traveling together to visit family; however, he got [...]
