GOT HOPE?

I love this HOPE structure. It sits just off of the Williamson Street exit off of 75 South in downtown Atlanta. It's on a lot that belongs to the Atlanta Mission, a ministry that reaches out to the homeless. The structure was given to them following the Passion Conference, hosted by Louie Giglio. We have used it in many photo shoots with Rescuing Hope. We were recently downtown shooting a video there for Circle Atlanta for Hope. The lot that it sits in is run down a bit. It was used as a garden area, but it hasn't been tended in [...]

“COME ON, COME ON!”

I want to apologize to you for being absent for so long. The work of Rescuing Hope is never ending and lately I've been doing a lot of traveling for conferences and speaking engagements. I've missed meeting you here. This past weekend, I had the privilege of attending the wedding of a dear friend of mine. He waited until later in life to get married, so to say he was beyond excited on his wedding day was an understatement. The venue was lovely. It was an outdoor wedding at the Chattahoochee Country Club on Lake Lanier. The weather was absolutely [...]

IMPOSSIBLE? NOT!

The Rescuing Hope Coffee House at Riverstone Church. How has 2016 been for you so far? For me it has been like a fast moving train and I've been trying to keep up. I apologize for not posting last week. With the first Rescuing Hope Coffee House I was firing on all cylinders. I've been chewing on what I am about to share with you; however, it never made it from my journal to the computer until now. On Thursday night, when I stood up to speak to those who attended the Coffee House at Riverstone Church, I [...]

Thank YOU!

It's Thanksgiving week and I'm excited. Traffic on the interstates will soon be moving at a snail's pace. Do you have to experience it? One year, traffic was so bad my younger brother turned his car off while sitting on the interstate to conserve gas. It's crazy. Airports are equally as hectic. Not only are there thousands of people trying to fly home, but then the weather could change quickly create a logistical nightmare. Why do we do it? Why do we endure the hassle of traveling this week every year? What makes it so special? Whether with neighbors, friends or family, we [...]

Bridge of Spies

Do you enjoy going to the movies? I love movies because I love the concept of story. I love getting to know new characters, traveling to different places, seeing different cultures, and trying to solve the problem of the story before it is revealed. I like many different kinds of movies: Romance Suspense Thriller (but not horror movies) Historical Drama Comedy This weekend I saw Bridge of Spies. It takes place during the Cold War. A KGB spy, Rudolf Abel, is arrested and put on trial as such. Abel's court appointed attorney, James Donovon, played by Tom Hanks, is tasked with providing [...]

I HAVE A NEW BABY!

Well, if that didn't grab your attention, I don't know what will. NO! I am not expecting a child at my age. Thank goodness. But I did birth something recently. I have worked for over 5 years in the anti-trafficking movement and have finally birthed the nonprofit, Rescuing Hope, Inc. Those of you who have journeyed with me for a while now are not surprised by the name. You can learn all about the ministry by skipping on over to my new website here. I am so very pleased with the way it turned out. It conveys the message of [...]

Drop anchor!

The anchor from the pirate ship in St. Augustine. Have you ever been on a ship? I've had the privilege of going a cruise before. It was quite fabulous. This summer I had the chance to walk around on a working ship that is a replicated pirate ship. While the ship is fully functioning with bathrooms, a galley, and such, it wasn't a cruise ship. The thing that fascinated me the most about this ship was the anchor. It was huge, ginormous, to  steal a word from Elf. They told us how much it weighed, but I was [...]

Be the Key!

My favorite chair in my office. What does your office look like? Mine is a collection of the places and people I've served in ministry. My favorite chair in my office was a gift to me from the students I served in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). It is draped with a quilt that was gifted to me from the Adullam Orphanage in Ghana, West Africa, where I serve when I go. In the back of the chair is a pillow from Daughters of Hope, a factory in India I toured that helps employ destitute women. To the side [...]

Shark Attacks Happening Closer Than You Think

Holden Beach, North Carolina Have you been to the beach this summer? I've had the opportunity to go twice. My immediately family went to St. Augustine for a couple of days and then I traveled to the NC coast to see my brother's family for a few days. My niece and nephew and I would go on treasure hunts each morning as we walked along the beach to see what we could find. My niece and I came upon a fisherman who caught a three foot shark. Thankfully for us, the shark was out of the water, on the [...]

Sweet Dreams!

Are you a dreamer? Or I guess a better question would be do you remember your dreams? Researchers have determined all people dream- men, women, children, even babies dream. One researcher said, During a typical lifetime, people spend an average of six years dreaming!" That's a lot of dreams. There's another interesting tidbit I found out about dreams. Men and women dream differently. According to dream researcher William Domhoff, women tend to have slightly longer dreams that feature more characters." That just made me laugh out loud. Even in our sleep, women have to get more words and details in [...]
