The Difference Between Rescued and Restored!

It's not finished yet. Have you ever restored a piece of furniture? It almost always takes longer than you expected. You also tend to discover some unexpected costs to the project; however, if you will stick with it, invest the needed time and effort, the end result is beautiful. A dear friend of mine is very gifted in restoring things. She took an old, discarded desk from a friend and spent several days working on it, sanding down the rough edges, removing the coats of paint and varnish that covered it, taking it down to the bared wood. Then [...]

Do you have people?

Do you frequent Starbucks? I must admit that I have the Starbucks app on my phone because I'm in there so often. It's not that I'm loyal to Starbucks. They just happen to be on just about every corner in Atlanta. It's a convenience thing. I just spend a lot of time in coffee shops. I love local, mom and pop, coffee shops too. Coffee shops are a great place to meet people. They're a fabulous place to write because people won't disturb you but you have the buzz of life going on around you. I do remember a time several years [...]

“We are stronger than I am.”

Are you a loner? You enjoy being by yourself and actually prefer it? Not me. I'm a people person from the word go. My philosophy is if 2 are good then 20 are better. I just love being around people. I love living life with others. God is a relational god. He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit [Matthew 28:19]. In Genesis 1:26 He says, ....Let Us make man in Our image, in our likeness...." [emphasis mine] He created us to be like Him. He created us to be relational. Don't get me wrong, there is a time and a [...]

What kind of lenses are you wearing?

How do you handle someone doing something wrong? Do you punish them? Do you call them out? Do you treat them differently? This morning, I read the following and was interested in your thoughts: In this African tribe, when someone does something harmful, they take the person to the center of the village where the whole tribe comes and surrounds them. At this point in the story, I fully expected the tribe to be like the Pharisees who brought the adulterous woman before Jesus ready to stone her to death [John 8:2-11]. What I discovered was completely different. For two [...]

Largest sex trafficking bust in America!

Did you see the breaking news yesterday about the largest sex trafficking bust in American history? If you missed it, you can watch it here or read about it here. It was like Rescuing Hope on steroids. From the moment the story broke, I couldn't stop thinking about those rescued: 105 girls between the ages of 13 and 17 rescued from 76 different cities 150 different pimps arrested, who held children in bondage either physically or mentally 105 families, learning their children had been rescued and were alive I welled up with emotion for the girls, for their families and for the [...]

Seven Days of Hope: Day 6, We need you!

Have you ever thought about writing a book? I can honestly say, I hadn't given it much thought before Rescuing Hope.  When I learned of the evil stripping innocence away from our children, selling them like a commodity, I had to do something. Because of my work with youth, I knew teenagers would never read a nonfiction book on the issue of sex trafficking, not unless they were doing a paper on the subject. I also knew if I could write a compelling novel and fill it with as much information about the issue as possible, there was a chance [...]
