IS GOD CALLING YOU?

Have you ever been sitting in church when someone's phone goes off? It's both sad and funny at the same time. We've become so dependent on our cell phones that we don't ever consider going anywhere without them. Most people I know have let their land lines go and have become fully dependent on their cell phones. It's as if we cannot stand the thought of being unavailable to people. What about God? Would you say that you make yourself as readily available to Him as you do the everyone else who calls you? I believe God talks with us all the [...]

Get Rid of It!

Do you lift weights? I have from time to time. I tend to go through cycles in my workout routines. For a long time I was doing weight training, then shifted to cardio workouts and then was into running for a while. Workout routines bore me after a while so I have to change to something new. We've recently decided to get rid of our home gym. Since my son went off to college, it has served as a table, a rack, and a dust collector more than a home gym. It's in great condition, like new in fact. So [...]

Run to Home Base!

Did you ever play tag growing up? Someone is IT  and that person runs around trying to tag the others who hide, run, and do everything within their power to stay away from IT. If a player gets tired of running and hiding, she can run to home base, which is usually a tree or stump somewhere, and as long as she's at base IT cannot get to her. My brothers used to get mad if I spent too much time at base and tell me I had to keep running. We played tag for hours on end when I was a young girl. Isn't it [...]

Do you hear them?

Have you ever attended a running race? I've been to four as a spectator and two as a competitor. One of my favorite races to follow was my brother's Ironman race in Florida several years ago. The level of determination on the faces of the competitors was impressive. They swam 2 miles in the ocean, biked 113 miles and then ended the race by running a marathon. Any of those legs of the race on it's own is impressive, but to combine the three in one day is borderline insane. Our family traveled to various points along the race route [...]

What are you listening to?

Do you talk to yourself? On a normal basis I don't; however, when I'm running, I find its the only way for me to make it through a run.  When I started running, it was more walking than running.  I couldn't run around the block without stopping.  With training, I was able to run my first 5K last weekend. My goal was to run the whole thing, which I did. I was pleasantly surprised by my time.  All of the training paid off for the big day. This week I've continued to run, but surprisingly, I've found it more difficult. [...]

Help! Shots fired! Run!

Do you exercise? Run? I think I've established that I am not a runner.  In fact, my mantra has always been "I'll only run if someone's shooting at me." That was until my son had this great idea we could run this summer and train to run a 5K together when he came back from studying in Belgium.  We both knew he could have walked out the front door and run a 5K.  I was the one who would need the whole summer to train to run it. So, I did.  It's amazing what you'll do for your children. I've [...]

Take cover! It’s rough out there.

The Wet Rat Look (I'm starting a new trend.) Are you a runner? I think I've made it perfectly clear that I am NOT a runner; however, this summer I've been running to train for a 5K with my son who has been studying abroad all summer.  It has been a way to stay connected to him. I have forced myself to wake up early and run at least three days a week in preparation, rain or shine.  It's been easy to say rain or shine because it hasn't rained a single morning I was supposed to run... until [...]

Give me patience, but hurry up!

How do you define patience? Wikipedia defines patience as, the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance/anger in a negative way; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. Very few people seem to exhibit patience anymore. We have evolved into an instant gratification world.  Instead of taking the time to prepare delicious  meals for our families, we rely on microwaves and drive-thru windows with no control over what is in the food we're feeding them. Instead of investing time and energy [...]

Guess what I learned listening to my son’s music?

What kind of music do you listen to? I like contemporary Christian, country music, rock and roll, worship music, beach music, easy listening, and even some classical.  I would have to say, I am not a fan of rap music... well, that is until today. Much of the rap music out there today sings of the degradation and objectification of women.  In many cases the songs glorify pimping, drugs and violence. The survivors of human sex trafficking I know have shared how rap music was all their pimps played, much of it very violent in nature. This morning I grabbed [...]
